A Message from the Minister

Welcome to St Stephen’s Uniting Church located in the heart of Toowoomba City, in Neil Street, right opposite the Empire Theatre.

Our life began in 1863 as the first congregation of Presbyterians on the Darling Downs, caring for the souls of the earliest Scots settlers in this area. Our current historic church building dates from 1883.

In 1977 we became a member congregation of the Uniting Church in Australia. Our mission is to present the Good News of Jesus to everyone in both our words and our actions. We believe that God loves us all, no matter what.

St Stephen’s congregation planted suburban churches last century – St David’s, St John’s – and was also instrumental in the foundation of Fairholme College. In the 1960s our congregation established and continues to oversee Meals on Wheels in Toowoomba, as well as having direct involvement with Gateway House and the Winter Shelter programme for the homeless of Toowoomba. We give moral, financial, and manpower support to many other ministries of care in our own region and around the world.

There are many activities offered in our church from Boys’ Brigade right through to Senior Fellowship. Please click on the Activities tab.

Our form of worship is traditional, informed by our solid Biblical and historical understanding of the message of Jesus. Our music programme is an integral part of our worship and witness.

28 years ago my own family arrived in Toowoomba with my work and we went “church shopping”. The moment we stepped into St Stephen’s Church, we knew that this would be our spiritual home. The genuinely warm welcome and the quality of the pastoral care of the whole congregation is what makes St Stephen’s a very special place.

I pray that we will have the opportunity of welcoming you to a service of worship soon.

Stan Klan – Interim Minister
